Sockeye Salmon (Red)

• Slimmest of the salmon, silver-blue in colour, with prominent glassy eyes
• Strong determined fighters on light tackle
• Excellent flesh for eating
• 2.2 to 3 kg (5 to 7 lb) on average, but can reach 6.3 kg (14 lb)
• Fleshy lips, small teeth and no "teeth" on the tongue
• Moderately-forked tail, with no black spots

The sockeye lives from four to five years. Young sockeye remain in freshwater nursery lakes a year or more before migrating to the sea.
