Motels

In BC roadside motels are great friends to anglers. Staying in a motel has many benefits, not the least of which are affordability and freedom. Hire a boat and guide or not? You decide. Want to fish in a different spot? Just check out of your motel and drive to a new one. Like to eat at different places? You're likely to find a number of good diners and restaurants nearby.

Cabins

People have been fishing these waters for a long, long time. So there are comfortable cabins conveniently located near many well-known locations.

Most cabins have fully equipped kitchens, making them very popular for family vacations. This way, you can cook up the day's catch while it's still fresh. Cabins are typically offered on the "Housekeeping Plan" - the price includes accommodation and cooking facilities, but you cook and supply your own food. Some cabin-style fishing camps do, however, offer meals too.

On Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, many cabins are geared specifically for saltwater anglers.

Most cabins are accessible by road. But if you're really adventurous, some of our most remote fishing spots come with cabins you can fly into.

Lodges & Resorts

For many, BC's fishing lodges offer the ultimate dream vacation. What could beat gourmet dining, fine wines, hot tubs, fireplaces and the thrill of landing a big fish? Some of these lodges are ships or floating barges that change locations to offer the best fishing throughout the season. Check the Online Sport Fishing Directory for lodges & resorts.

Located up and down the coast, many fly-in lodges are found near the great fishing spots off northern Vancouver Island, in the Queen Charlotte Islands and along the central and northern mainland coast. There are also superb lodges, and fishing, accessible by boat and floatplane in Clayoquot Sound and Barkley Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Most lodges offer "American Plan" packages, where the price includes accommodation, all meals and room service. Fully guided or non-guided fishing services with boats and equipment are usually included in the price.

At the lodges there's much more to do than just relax and fish. Sea kayaking, helicopter flightseeing tours, guided hiking, whale watching trips, horseback riding. You could even try your hand at Gyotaku - the ancient art of fish painting.

There's direct floatplane or helicopter access from Vancouver to many of our lodges. For others, you can connect to the resort's floatplane or helicopter departure point by commercial airline.

Charters & Guides

Expert knowledge can be a wonderful help. Fully guided packages include both boats and guides. However you can still take advantage of local expertise even if you're not on a fully guided package. Consider chartering a boat and guide for a day or two. You'll be shown the best fishing spots and techniques. Often the owner/skipper will provide suitable tackle. Inevitably, you'll get good advice.

Once you're confident with the area and your technique, you may choose to head out on your own.

Charter boat size can vary from large vessels accommodating from 2 to 15 anglers at a time, to good drift-fishing grounds.

Boat Launching Ramps

BC is very water accessible. If you're towing your own boat, you'll find launching ramps and hoists along the eastern, southwestern and western coasts of Vancouver Island and along the Sunshine Coast as far north as Powell River and Lund, and in every urban centre in northern BC.

Marinas with moorage, fuel, bait, tackle and other facilities dot the coast for the convenience of self-sufficient anglers.

If you're looking for a wilderness experience, you can also reach the "saltchuck" from many locations on the central and north coast.
